Political relations between Ukraine and the Republic of Liberia
Recognition of Ukraine: September 24, 1998
Establishment of diplomatic relations: September 24, 1998 by signing the relevant Protocol to the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of both countries in New York.
From February 2019, the Honorary Consulate of Ukraine operates in Monrovia. The Honorary Consul is Professor Nelson Onyama.
The rudimentary economic infrastructure of Liberia are major obstacles to the intensification of bilateral relations.
The Liberian delegation supported the draft resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly "Territorial integrity of Ukraine" in March 2014 and "Status of human rights in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol (Ukraine)" in November 2016, in December 2017 and in November 2018.
At October 2017, 105 Ukrainian peacekeepers were part of the UN Mission in Liberia, UNMIL (completed in February 2018).
On July 16, 2015, a telephone conversation between the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Liberia took place.
On July 11, 2017, Ambassador of Ukraine to Senegal and Liberia (non-resident) Mr. O.Ovcharov handed credentials to the President of the Republic of Liberia, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.
On January 22, 2018, Ambassador of Ukraine to Liberia (non-resident) Mr. O.Ovcharov attended the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected President of Liberia, Mr. George Weah. During the trip, the representative of Ukraine was received by Vice-President of Liberia, Mrs. Jewel Taylor.
On November 27, 2018, a telephone conversation between the ministers of foreign affairs of the two countries took place.
On February 7, 2019, in the framework of the opening ceremony of the Honorary Consulate of Ukraine in Monrovia, a meeting between the Charge d'Affaires of Ukraine in Senegal A. Barabulia and the Vice-President of Liberia, Mrs. Jewel Taylor, as well as with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Liberia, Elias Shoniyin took place.
