The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Senegal and Liberia (non-resident), H.E. Mr. Olexandr Ovcharov, during his trip to Monrovia on January 22, participated in the inauguration ceremony of the new President of the Republic of Liberia, George Weah.
On January 23, the representative of Ukraine was received by Vice-President of the Republic of Liberia, H.E. Mrs. Jewel Howard Taylor, on the first working day of her new position.
While discussing the state and the prospects of the bilateral cooperation, the Ambassador of Ukraine expressed deep gratitude to the friendly Liberia on behalf of the Ukrainian leadership for the consistent support of Kyiv’s peace initiatives within the framework of the international organisations.
In her turn, H.E. Mrs. Taylor expressed gratitude to the Ukrainian side for the warm congratulations to the newly elected President and Vice-President of Liberia, highlighted the significant contribution of the Ukrainian peacekeepers to the establishment of peace and stabilization of the situation in Liberia, and also stressed her interest in developing mutually beneficial cooperation with Ukraine in the economic, military and technical and humanitarian spheres.
The program of the visit of the Ambassador of Ukraine to West Africa also provides for meetings (on January, 24) with the Ukrainian peacekeepers, who are duly completing the UNMIL peacekeeping mission in Liberia and returning to the homeland on February 9, 2018, as well as with the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Côte d’Ivoire (on January 25) to discuss the concrete steps for activating the bilateral cooperation between Kyiv and Abidjan.
