This is the first time that Ukraine has officially celebrated the Day of Europe. The relevant decree was signed yesterday by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

From now on, on every 9th of May, Ukrainians will celebrate our historic unity – the unity of all Europeans who destroyed Nazism and defeated racism. The unity that brings peace closer. It will be the Day of Europe, which has been supporting the Ukrainians for nine years of Russian aggression and 440 days of full-scale invasion.  It will be the Day of Europe that helps us fight on all fronts. It will be the Day of Europe, of our ally, a part of which Ukraine was, is and will always be.
