On December 14, 2017, in Dakar, a round table discussion on the topic “The Holodomor in Ukraine in 1932-1933: A Retrospective View and Lessons from History” took place.
It was organized by the Embassy of Ukraine in Senegal together with the Dakar Regional Branch of the Center for Diplomatic and Strategic Studies (CEDS, Paris). Students, experts and researchers in history and political relations, journalists, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Dakar etc. attended the abovementioned event.
In his introductive speech, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Senegal Mr. O.Ovcharov emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of one of the most tragic pages in the history of the Ukrainian people. The presentation on the history and timeline of the Holodomor demonstrated the experience of the terrible events in Ukraine during the collectivization. In addition, the list of the countries and the international organizations that recognized the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as the genocide of the Ukrainian people was presented.
The further discussion touched the issues of mass destruction of peoples, including those on the African continent and the need for their recognition and condemnation by the world community.
After the round table Mr. O.Ovcharov gave the interview to the Senegalese company RDV.
